What is the helpline?
The Aware Defeat Depression Helpline is a support and information service for anyone affected by depression – those who experience depression or the family and friends of those who experience depression. The helpline offers a non-judgmental listening-ear to people who may be worried or distressed, or just need to talk to someone who understands depression. You can also get in touch if you are worried about someone who may be depressed or for information about depression or our other services.
How can I contact the helpline?
The helpline can be contacted by phone or email:
When can I call?
The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am - 1.00pm. When we are contacted by email, we aim to respond within four hours of receipt (within operating hours).
How much does it cost?
Calls to the helpline are charged at local rate from anywhere in the UK.
Who will I be speaking to?
The helpline is manned by a team of local volunteers who are specifically recruited and trained to deliver this service. We are a user-led organisation and many of our volunteers have personal experience of depressive illness.
Will my call be confidential?
All calls are anonymous and treated confidentially. Aware Defeat Depression’s confidentiality policy however, states that there are exceptions to the rule of confidentiality. Exceptions may broadly be defined as situations where the safety, rights and liberties of other people or the person giving the information may be seriously at risk. Aware Defeat Depression’s confidentiality policy can be provided upon request.
